Latest Construction and Safety Update

The first phase has cleared several key steps in 2026, as the timeline below shows:

  • RDSO certification arrived on 2 June 2026, after a wait of about 209 days.
  • In August 2026, the CMRS inspected the pit line that will service trains until the main depot opens.
  • On 28 August 2026, reports confirmed that the trains had cleared their safety check.
  • MMRDA now awaits the final CMRS safety report before it opens the line to passengers.

If the CMRS asks for any changes, MMRDA will make them before the launch date. So the exact opening date still depends on these last approvals.

Phase 1 Stations in Thane

The first stretch runs through the heart of Ghodbunder Road and the Kapurbawdi area. It covers eight stations, as per a Free Press Journal report from August 2026:

  • Gaimukh
  • Kasarvadavali
  • Vijay Garden
  • Dongripada
  • Tikuji-ni-Wadi
  • Kapurbawdi
  • Majiwada
  • Cadbury Junction

These stations will serve large townships along Ghodbunder Road and the busy Kapurbawdi and Majiwada junctions. Many of them sit close to schools, offices and malls in Thane West.

What Comes Next

After the first stretch, MMRDA plans to open the line in stages. The section beyond Cadbury Junction runs through Thane city, Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli and Ghatkopar before it reaches Wadala. Stations like RTO Thane, Teen Haath Naka and Mulund are expected to open during 2027.

As per Wikipedia, the final stretch to Wadala is expected to open around November 2027. Once complete, the line will link Thane to central Mumbai by rail on a new route. Dates can shift, though, since earlier targets have already slipped.

How Line 4 Fits the Wider Metro Plan

Metro Line 4 forms the core of the Green Line on Mumbai's metro map. Line 4A extends it north to Gaimukh on Ghodbunder Road. A future Line 10 will carry it from Gaimukh towards Mira Road, in the west.

At the southern end, a planned Line 11 will run from Wadala towards south Mumbai. So in the long run, the Green Line could take you from Ghodbunder Road to the old city. All three lines will share the main depot at Mogharpada in Thane.

Why the Project Faced Delays

Metro Line 4 has taken longer than first planned. The state had said four stations would open by December 2025 and the first phase by April 2026. Neither target was met, and the trains stood idle for months while the team waited for safety papers.

Road work along LBS Road and Ghodbunder Road has also slowed traffic for years. Lanes have narrowed at many points along both roads. Once the line opens, though, it should ease much of this pressure by taking cars off the road.

Links to Other Metro Lines

Metro Line 4 will connect with several other lines, and these are the key links planned:

  • Line 5 at Kapurbawdi, which will run to Bhiwandi and Kalyan
  • Line 6 at Gandhi Nagar, which will run towards Vikhroli and the western suburbs
  • Line 2B at Siddharth Colony, which will link to Mandale and the western side

These links will let you change lines without leaving the metro network. That should cut travel time for many cross-city trips from Thane West.

What Metro Line 4 Means for Thane West

Once it opens, Metro Line 4 will change daily travel in Thane West in these ways:

  • A faster, traffic-free ride along Ghodbunder Road and into Mumbai's eastern suburbs
  • Fewer cars on the road, which should ease jams at Kapurbawdi and Majiwada
  • Better access to jobs in Vikhroli, Ghatkopar and Wadala
  • Higher demand for homes close to metro stations

Homes near a station often see stronger rental and resale interest once a line starts running.

Tips for Homebuyers Near Metro Line 4

If you plan to buy a home near the new line, these checks can help you choose well:

  • Find the exact distance from the project gate to the nearest station.
  • Check if the station has a foot overbridge, parking or feeder bus links.
  • Look at noise levels, since homes right next to the track can be louder.
  • Compare prices near stations with prices a little further away.

A home near a station, but away from the main road, gives you both access and quiet.

Where Prestige Falcon City Thane Fits

Prestige Falcon City Thane sits near Kolshet-Balkum Road, close to the Kapurbawdi and Majiwada stations. The Kapurbawdi station will also link to Metro Line 5 in the future. So residents should get easy access to two metro lines from the same junction.

The project plans possession by December 2031, well after the full metro line is due to open. So buyers can expect a fully working metro corridor by the time they move in. See travel details on the location page, or read about the Eastern Express Highway and LBS Road.
